Dear Ginger

A Letter to our Typical Daughter

Ginger* is our 3 1/2 year old daughter, and the younger sibling to Stix and Trux. She has beautiful red hair, big blue eyes and rocks as a sister. And, she is typical.

AT 3 1/2, she is already bypassing her brothers in some milestones, but is still a great playmate to them. But, there are a few things I would like to say to her…

Dear Ginger,

At 3 1/2, you probably don’t realize what a blessing you have been to your older brothers. We see how excited you are when they come home from school, running out to the bus and giving them a hug as they get off. We see how you open their backpacks, excited to see the new art projects and what they learned at school. We see how you point out construction vehicles to Trux and get Stix his favorite snack.

What we want you to know is you are an awesome sister. You have qualities that I pray you never lose. You never see your brothers as any different from you. When you can, you help them if they are struggling.  You cheer for them when they succeed, and miss them when they are gone.

Our family doesn’t know how Autism will affect our life in the years to come. We don’t know of the sacrifices you will need to make sure your brothers are reaching their full potential.  However, we do know that with you as their sister, you will love them unconditionally. And, we could never ask any more from than that.

We love you Ginger. You are rocking the sister gig!
